Local NASA scientist hosting lectures on space exploration, Apollo Space Program

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — One local man spent most of his life working with NASA and preparing America to explore the final frontier of outer space. He currently spends his time talking to others to give them an understanding of what he did for the Apollo Space Program, and his role in a "historic event." Francis Donald Freeburn spoke with 6 News about how he became interested in aerospace engineering and where that interest took him.

Richland Cinemas shows off new 3-D technology

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — In Cambria County Wednesday, Richland Cinemas tested out new 3-D technology. Owner Ed Troll says new digital projectors will be able to show films at a higher frame rate, which will catch up with the cameras being used to shoot the films. Frames will go from 24 to 48 frames a second, which brings in a greater depth of field for the viewers eyes. He says the higher the frame rate, the more real the image appears.

Sheetz lowers price of Unleaded 88 for remainder of the month

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Sheetz announced Thursday that it is lowering the price of its Unleaded 88 gas to $2.99 per gallon for the remainder of the month of August. Officials say Unleaded 88 has been approved by the EPA to be used in all cars, trucks and SUVs that were made in 2001 or newer. Experts say that Unleaded 88 "burns cleaner" and makes it more environmentally friendly.

Southmont celebrates 47th annual jubilee

SOUTHMONT, Pa. (WJAC) — The 47th annual Southmont Volunteer Fire Company Jubilee held its annual parade Thursday. The event began at the Westmont Elementary School and made its way to the jubilee grounds on State Street. Each year, people line the streets for the parade and then head to the festival grounds for entertainment, food and rides. This is a special year for Southmont, as the borough celebrates its centennial.

State College places restrictions ahead of State Patty's 2023

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — This time of year, State College has its own unofficial tradition of State Patty's, drawing in people from all over the place to party here. Though, a common complaint is delinquency. With the expected heavy drinking and partying, State College Borough and police have announced restrictions to tamp down any rowdiness.
