EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities were threatening to arrest anyone who doesn’t leave an evacuation zone near the smoldering wreckage of an Ohio train derailment near the Pennsylvania state line and warned Monday there was a high probability of a toxic gas release.
While crews were working to prevent a major explosion, residents were packing overnight bags, loading their pets into cars and searching for hotel rooms. Police in the village of East Palestine moved out of their communication center as the threat of an explosion increased.
(WJAC) — There's a new art exhibit at Millersville University opening Friday evening displaying sketches of people who died from drug overdoses.
The exhibit features the sketch of Shawn Sinisi from Altoona who lost his life in 2018 to addiction.
"It's a beautiful project. I just feel like it really shows the person that was full of life and happiness," said Shawn's mom, Marianne.
These sketches show the person as a happy version of themselves before the addiction took over.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The 32nd annual Potato Fest takes place this weekend in Ebensburg.
This, even as reports show a shortage on potatoes.
6 News spoke with an official behind the potato fest and a local potato farmer about this - they say were not seeing much of a potato shortage locally and so the Potato Fest in Ebensburg will go on like it has in years past.
“This weekend, on Saturday in Ebensburg is our annual Potato Fest,” said Danea Koss, a Community Development Director.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (TND) — Harvard University’s governing body on Wednesday denied a faculty push to award degrees to 13 seniors undergoing disciplinary action for their involvement in a pro-Palestine demonstration on campus.
Harvard was one of several schools across the country to host a Gaza solidarity encampment in protest of the conflict in the Middle East. Video of the encampment shared via Instagram shows students rushing a campus lawn and hurriedly setting up tents as onlookers cheer.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (TND) — The Shed BBQ and Blues Joint team from Ocean Springs, Mississippi was crowned grand champion of the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest Saturday, taking the whole enchilada with its delectable whole hog preparation. The team also took home the top prize in the whole hog division, where the entire pig is cooked at once. The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is considered one of the premiere events for culinary competition as it has risen in prominence since its founding in the 1970s.
