Vandalism causing thousands of dollars in damage at Blair County park

Authorities said over $2,000 in damages were caused in multiple vandalism attacks at Greenwood Park in Logan Township. Officials said the vandalism has come on at least three occasions over the last two weeks.

Officials said those responsible broke into a shed at the park taking spray paint and using the paint to vandalize the playground.

They also said lights and signs have been ruined and bathrooms have been destroyed.

Logan township officials say if the attacks continue... They may have to shut down facilities like the bathrooms. Before shutting any facilities down... Authorities say they are taking another precaution.

Logan Township Highway Foreman Jim Hoffner said, “Right now, we got an order, we've got camera systems that are going to be put up. So, hopefully this doesn't happen and if it happens at least we can catch the people that are doing this. And the camera systems are going to cost almost $10,000.”

The money for repairs is coming out of the township's budget according to officials, and they cannot afford to continue to fix the bathrooms at the park.

“We got a lot of money in the budget for a lot of good things to happen, but when it comes to vandalism it takes away from that budget,” Hoffner said. “All this vandalism causes the budget to keep going over, and if it goes over then the township runs out of money.”

He said shutting down facilities at the park, like the bathrooms, is not a measure the township wants to take, but may have to if the vandalism continues.

Officials said they currently do not know who is responsible for the vandalism.
