CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A pool tournament, hosted by a group that works with people with special needs, was held Sunday in Cambria County.
The tournament was held at Mully's Billiards, located along Scalp Avenue in Johnstown, and was hosted by the organization Crossroads to Independence.
Competitors were dressed in green for Saint Patrick’s Day as they moved from table to table for a skills competition.
Organizers set up shots, some at difficult angles or trick shots, and gave the competitors a few attempts to make the shot.
They say the idea was inspired by a night of playing pool becoming popular among the group.
“We've been coming to Mully's pool hall every Thursday night. It's called men's night out. Dylan and his friends come, and they play the jukebox, and they play pool, and they have a great time, so we thought why not have a tournament. A lot of people have misconceptions about the special needs community. They're very gifted, talented people,” said organizer Thomas Venditti.
Organizers estimate around 50 people competed in the tournament.
